TCR International Series. Volkswagen driver Vernay takes victory, ahead of team-mate Huff

One-two for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR: Jean-Karl Vernay (F, Leopard Racing) won race two at the third race weekend of the TCR International Series at Spa-Francorchamps (B). His new team-mate Rob Huff (GB) finished runner-up to round off a great team result. Edouard Mondron (B, Delahaye Racing), also at the wheel of the 350-hp touring car from Wolfsburg, came home fourth in an extremely exciting race. Giacomo Altoè (I, West Coast Racing) was tenth. Vernay was also the best-placed Volkswagen driver in Friday's opening race at the Belgian Formula 1 circuit, crossing the finish line in fourth place. Huff followed him home in sixth, while Mondron also finished in the points in seventh. Victory went to Stefano Comini (CH, Audi). Vernay (91 points) now holds a 25-point lead over Comini (66) at the top of the Drivers' Championship. The next races will be held in Monza (I) this coming weekend (13-14 May).

FIA World Rallycross Championship

Second place for Kristoffersson, lead extended in the Team Championship

Johan Kristoffersson (S) finished runner-up at the third race weekend of the FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX) in Hockenheim (D). The Swede from PSRX Volkswagen Team Sweden claimed his second podium finish in a row, having taken third place last time out in Portugal. Kristoffersson started the Hockenheim final from the front row in the Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercar. However, he did not get a great start on the wet surface and was eventually beaten by winner Mattias Ekström (S, Audi) after six hard-fought laps. Kristoffersson's team-mate Petter Solberg (S) overcame a difficult qualifying - a collision, through no fault of his own, cost him valuable points in the second race - to progress to the final, where he finished fourth. These latest results mean that PSRX Volkswagen Team Sweden now has 131 points to its name in the Team Championship. The team takes a 17-point lead over EKS (114 points) to Mettet (B), where the next round of the WRX will take place this coming weekend (12-14 May).

Swedish Touring Car Championship

Ekblom triumphs in the Golf GTI at season-opener

Fredrik Ekblom ensured the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR a successful start to the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC). The Swede, standing in for Johan Kristoffersson (S), who was in action on the same weekend in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, won race three at the Ring Knutstorp (S) and finished runner-up in the other two races. Fredrik Blomstedt (S), Ekblom's team-mate at Kristoffersson Motorsport, finished third in race one to join him on the podium. Blomstedt came home seventh and fourth in races two and three. Dennis Strandberg (S) of Volkswagen customer team Lestrup Racing came home fifth in his Golf GTI TCR in race two. Andreas Ahlberg (S, Micke Kågered Racing) twice finished in the points, courtesy of tenth place in the opening race and seventh in race two. The STCC now heads to Alastaro (FIN) from 19 to 20 May.
